The rear lighting system on the DeLorean is presented via two identical lighting elements mirrored in placement to each other. The units mount left and right, respectively, on the rear fascia assembly. The light bulb elements are mounted into sockets integrated into the boards.

The boards are identical, allowing for the testing of independent system functions. The five bulbs result in four distinct functions throughout vehicle operation. From the middle of the assembly going towards the side of the vehicle are: back up, brake light, taillight, brake light, and turn signal indication.

When faced with servicing the bulbs, there are ten to be replaced.

The eight outer and secondary inboard bulbs are 21 W single contact.

The two inner bulbs are 5 W single contact.

It is imperative to protect the lens using the lower-rated bulbs on the center points because the headlamp circuit always illuminates as a running light function.

Factory original circuit boards and Chinese reproduction units sold by most of the community are prone to failure. The first is due to age, the latter due to a planned obsolescence business model. Regardless this results in poor functionality due to connection points and assembly standards on a critical safety item.
